Emmett’s connection to music and his athletic career dates back to his high-school wrestling days. Back then, he and his teammates used to walk out to “Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor, and every time he hears that song it brings him back to those times. During the difficult moments, songs like “Courage to Grow” by Rebelution and “Three Little Birds (Everything going to be alright)” by Bob Marley resonate with him. He tells UFC Ultimate Sound that music has the power to change his mindset and turn what seems like a negative moment into a positive one.
The life of a UFC Athlete involves a lot of travel, and when you’re preparing for battle and having to make the journey to the destination for competition, it’s important to maintain a positive state of mindset. To keep a peaceful mental state, when Emmett is traveling on fight week he listens to albums from 2-Pac, Me Against the World, Forest Hills Drive, The best of Celly Cel, and Drake.
The music that makes up Emmett’s playlists is the soundtrack of his career. From fight camp to travel to being backstage warming up before making the walk. His mixes are with him every step of the way, playing an integral role in getting him prepared for what’s ahead.
Emmett tells UFC Ultimate Sound that his favorite artist is Eminem, but his absolute favorite genres are 90s hip-hop and reggae. Some of his other favorite artists are Nas, Jay-X, E-40, Russ, Rebelution, and SOJA.
